Holland is not famous for it's high temperatures, but during the Summer Cup 2012 in Sweetlake City (Zoetermeer) the temperature was far beyond 30 degrees.. Great day to lie on the beach with a cocktail, but no.. we, Team Hammerheads, decided to go on the ice to play the Summer Cup 2012.
And we won the tournament! After 6 games (5 wins) and a nice barbecue we received the big and beautiful golden cup! The perfect start of a new season!

You must think: 'hmm, these guys look familiar.. True, because WE won the Hammerheads
Trophy! Maybe it is 'not done' to win your own tournament, but hey, after 6 years we are
allowed to have our own names on the trophy, right?
THANKS EVERYONE FOR MAKING THIS ANOTHER FABULASTIC WEEKEND!
Only a few more weeks before the Hammerheads Trophy 2012... We proudly announce that 18 teams will compete in this year's event! We even had a waiting list this time! Must be the good curling and the nice atmosphere.. Or is it the Fabulastic Quizz Night?! Anyway, the schedule and system of play is now online.
*UPDATE 23-02-2012* There has been a small change in the schedule: teams A1 and A3 are switched. see [here!]
What a way to start our 2012 curling year: Mercure Perth Masters 2012. Many topteams from Scotland, Scandinavia, Canada and Switzerland where there. So it's not without reason that Perth Masters is often considered to be the highest level tournament in Europe. And how did we do in this strong field? Well, looking back, we are reasonably satisfied. The first game was a good win. We lost the second game and the fourth game by one point after a great fight. So we certainly proved that we can compete at this level, but just need that little extra to get us through a few extra rounds. See the result page for more info.
For the first time since our succes in Aberdeen, back in 2009, we crossed the North Sea to play in Scotland. The Stirling Invitational Curling Competition is a new tournament on the calender and is organized in the beautiful rink at The Peak in Stirling.
All the topteams of Scotland were there and we had the honour to play Eve Muirhead and Tom Brewster in the groupstage, two of the best and most famous teams in the world! Both games were lost, but interesting! Especially the game versus Brewster was very tight, an extra end was needed to decide this game. Unfortunately we didn't survive the groupstage, but we look back at another toplevel weekend!
'A good start is half of the work' is a famous Dutch expression. Well, expressions are not always right.. We had a a great start this weekend at the play-offs, but we didn't qualify for the European Curling Championships in Moscow.
Three teams fought for one ticket to Moscow in a double round robin. We won the first two games on Friday and started great the first game on Saturday. But then came the turning point. We lost both games on Saturday, the second one in an extra end. That meant Team NYP had to beat Team Van Dorp on Sunday, but unfortunately for us, they didn't. Team Van Dorp won and will represent the Netherlands in Moscow.
The NCB announced the schedule for the Dutch national play-offs in Zoetermeer, from 28th till 30th of October 2011. Click here for the complete game schedule. The Hammerheads will play 2 games on Friday and 2 on Saturday. If the Hammerheads are tied with 1 or 2 teams after the double round robin, they will also play on Sunday. The winner of the play-offs qualifies directly for the European Curling Championships in December in Moscow, Russia.
The national play-offs will be played at Silverdome Ice Stadium in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands. We hope to welcome as many supporters as possible!!
3 centimeters.. That was the difference between our rock and Brozek's rock. That was the difference between being out and being in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, it was Brozek's rock that was closest to the button, and not ours. So we were out! Nevertheless, we look back at another great experience! We played pretty good, won 3 games and enjoyed Prague. So hopefully to be continued in 2012...
Playing in an unusual line-up we won the CBZ starterstournament, which was organized in the weekend of 10/11 september. Our skip Mark Neeleman decided to play with the Neeleman Mixed team to prepare for the European Mixed Championships.
Mark Rurup took the broom in the hand and skipped our team to the tournament victory. After 3 wins a tie was enough for the first place in the golden group.
Past weekend Team Hammerheads played the Baden Masters tournament in Switzerland. It was the second time they appeared in this wonderfully organized tournament. The opponents in their group were impressive: Team Denmark (ECC 2010 silver), Team Germany (Andy Kapp, former ECC champion and WCC silver medallist), Team Oehninger (EJC 2010 gold) and Team Ruch from Switzerland.
Unfortunately The Hammerheads didn't reach the quarterfinals after one win (Team Oehninger) and three losses. The games against the Danish and Team Ruch were tight, but lost in the last few ends. Resumé: good games, great tournament, learned a lot, but no quarterfinals. Mixed feelings at the end!
After 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss Team Hammerheads won the Mid-Road at The Summer Cup 2011. This tournament was played from 19 till 21 August 2011 in Zoetermeer (NL). So more nice silverware is added to the prize cabinet!
18 teams in total from Russia, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, Poland and the Netherlands battled for the prizes. The overall tournament was won by Team Young Men (NL).
The new season has started! The first weeks of August we will be training in Zoetermeer. Before and after the International Youth Camp a couple of afternoon and evening sessions are scheduled. This way we want to be ready for the Summer Cup later this month.
